Deaf President Now
Deaf President Now Artwork is to celebrate DPN that happened in March 1988 when Gallaudet students protested the appointment of a hearing woman over 2 deaf male candidates. The protest lasted a week and attracted a lot of media attention. It was considered our first Civil Right movement in Deaf Community.
This artwork is made of almost 100% wood, featured 4 student leaders (Tim Rarus, Bridgetta Bourne-Firl, Greg Hlibok and Jerry Covell) during DPN with backs to DC skyline. It is about 36 inches wide and 26 inches tall. It weighs about 12 lbs.
To honor DPN 30th Anniversary, only 30 will be made. Gallaudet University has the first one without DC skyline and it is in President's Office.
BONUS: Artist's personal story with DPN along with 4 leaders' signatures are posted on the back.
